Duke's Wharf: Medieval Textile Processing Pits

Floor mosaic

The redundant buildings which currently occupy the site are a mix of styles constructed throughout the 20th century. The oldest of these buildings are located at the Duke Street frontage and were designed by the architect E.T.Boardman c.1900. The chance discovery of an early 20th-century mosaic floor remnant below modern flooring within one of the Boardman buildings was a pleasing discovery. The legend ‘Norwich Corporation Electricity Works’ captures both the spirit of the building and the 20th-century chapter of the site’s industrial history.
